AMAZING!! i love the show!!! i love the food i love the sushi and the service.... it's a little pricey but worth it. My kids had a blast they love the food everything was cooked just right and spiced just right and they make everything right there... crunchy California role is to die for !!! can't wait to go again!!

The food was not epic and the price was high.

Service is still attentive as a whole, but this place has turned into Chucky Cheese as far as people bringing crying kids in for meals - makes for an even more noisy atmosphere.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The cook on the teppan grill was great. They actually serve fresh veges. You can request garlic which makes the food taste even better. Go & enjoy the food. Don't forget to embrace the atmosphere.

I've only eaten sushi there so this doesn't apply to the cooked food. But the sushi is of mediocre quality. Not especially good fish and the chefs are not especially skilled or knowledgeable. We have several MUCH better choices in Santa Maria for good sushi.

  • Meg N.

The quality of sushi here is the best I've had. You can taste the freshness of the sushi. So good. Not to mention the view you'll get of the habachi grills. A+ experience from me.

  • Dave H.

Not mind-blowing, but pretty good. I've gone a few times a year since they've opened. In the last year, I've noticed that some of the fish here has become flavorless. Great chefs though. Service needs to be a bit more consistent. Still, it works for a sushi-fix, and I'll probably be going back...just won't order certain cuts.

My Mom and I went for a bite to eat last night! YUM YUM. I live in San Diego and there are a lot of Sushi places to pick from and most deliver to high standards. My brother, who lives here recommended this place. I was very extremely happy with Yanagi. The sushi was fresh, the portions were large, the selection was varied, the prices were reasonable and the taste was...well tasty! The service was nice without being over bearing. I can't wait until my husband comes to visit, so I can take him to Yanagi. PS. I have no kids, my brother has 4 and he says they are always so helpful with the kids and VERY KIND!!!!

overpriced, noisy and rude servers! I will never go there again.

Overall look at the place is nice. Workers are friendly. Slight issue with the food. I ordered Una Don (eel over rice). Unfortunately I could not finished is because it had worms. Yuck. Almost threw up. Price was ridiculous too for lunch. It cost 16.00. I had this meal before at other restaurant and the only time I pay for that much for the meal I ordered was during dinner. Worst experiance ever. I would not recommend it. They should inspect the freshness of their food prior to serving them. Really. Worms on a meal. Makes loose and appetite and makes me wanna throw up.

  • Caitlyn M.

There food is not that great, overpriced sushi with horrible service. Last time. My sushi was cold (baked roll) felt like it was just sitting there my fried rice was hard and my waiter sucked! Not going back

    (1)
  • Deloni R.

Hmm definitely not as good as the first location opened...the waitresses could learn to smile & be more friendly & I wasn't fond of the "sides" on there combo dishes ...it was like there was vinegar on everything...but there rolls were creative & quite delicious...ill give them that...but i guess theres nothing like atari-ya(: --- best kept secret on the central coast

This is date night for us. We love the Love Boat for special occasions. Beyond that we love the sushi, teriyaki chicken, got a and kalbi. The Tappan tables are awesome too.

If I could oy give zero!! After calling in my order to go. I picked it up and left totally my fault for not checking my order before leaving. Yes you guessed it they messed up on the order, but what burns me is that I returned they refused to refund me, and wanted to charge me for a new meal that they messed up on. Stay away from this place they are bad with customer relations and the prices are too high for them to be carrying on with such bad policies!

  • Jin C.

Probably the best hamachikama I've ever had. It was so tender and full of meat. I ordered a tempura when we first started but never got it after pretty much finishing our dinner. So I inquired about it. They said they'd check on it. I was brought tempura dipping sauce but no tempura. After about 15 mins I asked about it again. It came 5 minutes later. Grr...

  • Brii S.

This place makes me mad. Everyone of us ordered at the same time and my friends and daughter got their food, ate, waited, ate some more and finally finished their food before I had even gotten my rolls because the owner/sushi chef was talking and texting on his phone. I understand answering a business call at work but the fact that he would do that then not wash his hands twice and try to serve my food to me after everyone had already eaten was disgusting. Once I asked him why he would do that he denied even being on his phone even though I watched him the whole time. I refused to eat my food because it grossed me out and they still charged me for it. I will NEVER eat here again.

  • Joy V.

This place is ok. Nothing spectacular that stands out in my mind. One random carrot stick was used as a garnish on our rolls. That was kinda strange. The service is great though, friendly employees. Thumbs up.

  • Dave C.

The last 2 times I went there for lunch on the weekend with my girlfriend , the service was horrible. On top of it the place was pretty empty and all the workers took a break at the same time! All they did was sit on the side of the sushi bar playing on there cell phones. Our food server apologized and said it was his first time working two shifts in a row. What! Really whats the difference in working one shift or two? Poor excuse! Not going back!

One star is saying too much!!! We have been going here since there opening years ago, maybe 5 yrs or greater. We usually go 2-3 times yearly as this WAS the favorite Japanese restaurant of one of my sons. We have a favorite Jap place in Grover Beach of which I can never remember the name so no review. I am so disappointed in Yanagi as it has gone from really good to downright bad over the last couple of years. We were there several nights ago. The service was horrible. The server was downright mean to the young hostess who was trying to help her. IMain course was delivered about 10 minutes apart for different people in the party. Usually friendly and outgoing Sushi chefs seemed grumpy, and disinterested. I ordered Yoki Soba and it was served on a bread sized plate, not the traditional bowl. It is described as having chicken and seafood. I found two dime size pieces of chicken, no seafood. Little veggies. All noodle! Friend with us had the same and was very disappointed too. Sons had lobster roles which looked good, but when they compared it to the times having it there in the past, and when they compared to my sons other favorite Jap restaurant , told me it was low quality. All ordered Cali roles, which do not come with ginger and wasabi unless asked for. Have never had this happen. Another time, about 6 mo ago, we went on my sons birthday and were charged for his birthday treat and song, but were not told about this up front, and the charge was about $10. Just very disappointed more than once. Will not return.

So after a long day of work on a Sunday and having skipped lunch my wife and decided to try this place. We were craving sushi and this place was recommended by a family member. We loved it. Friendly service, cold Kirin, and great rolls. We asked our server for some hot sauce and she brought back an awesome chef-concocted chili sauce with cilantro. Awesome! Hot! Love it. Since it's down the street, we'll be back.

Sushi and rolls are ok but beef rips from combo was chewy enough to hurt my jaw muscle.also service is way slow and portion is small. the price doesn't correspond to the quality and quantity

Had lunch here with friends the other day. Food was A-OK and service was not good. Will look for someplace else the next time!

We came here after visiting friends who live on the AFB. They are only open in the morining from 11 to 230 and in the evening from 5 to close. We came in at like 2:20, they sat us anyways but told as we had to pay for our bill as soon as we ordered. The service was ok, considering it was rushed. I used to be a server so I know how it feels when you get late parties, but no one still likes to feel rushed. I hate it when I have to flag down servers to refill my water, but I knew they were busy with closing the restaurant. Nonetheless, we still got our food which was delicious. The lobster roll was my favorite sushi they had!! I didn't care much for the firecracker roll. The unagi was also particularly delicious as well. The lobster tasted fresh and succulent. I felt like the firecracker had too much spice for my taste buds. For dessert, you have to try their fried green tea ice cream. It was huge though! You can literally share this with a party of five. The prices are moderate and can get expensive if you order a lot of rolls. Overall, this is a sushi spot I would enjoy again, but hopefully try to come back when they're not closing so to get better service.

I scoff at this place. For 3 reasons. Yanagi, I pass by you all the time in Santa Maria and never stop to think "I want to eat there". The Food: Even the non-Japanese would notice if you served GOOD non- traditional food. What's up with the sickly sweet eel sauce, the sweet & sour vinegary-ish sauce you put on every single thing have it be rolls, appetizers, etc? I don't ever recall a time when I could actually taste the fish for it being the fish..sashimi alone definately lacked. If anything, go for the Teppan. The price: I understand you guys are a chain in the central coast with three locations..but you see it as a way to jack up the price? Seriously over priced food for your quality. I've had excellent for cheaper, of non traditional sushi, Teppan, the whole bit elsewhere. So NOT worth it. Servers: Please don't slam down my plates, it doesn't hurt to smile or make a little conversation and it should not take you 30 minutes to bring a glass of water. The second star is thanks to: Presentation: PRETTY food w/playful names. Nice touch with the flower. Pretty but not up to par food. Your Teppan Chefs: Hey, Im a usually quiet person, but if your teppan chef brought a smile to my face and made me laugh during dinner, that's a plus. The Interior/environment: very easy going and fun environment. Too dark for the dinner service, you could turn on a couple of lights.

This restaurant is part of the Yanagi Sushi restaurant chain, which includes three other locations in Pismo, Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo. That being said, expect all of them to offer the hyper-busy, noise-abundant, tambourine-jamming atmosphere that would make old Uncle Masa freak out. If you are outgoing and have some friends that want to make some noise, this teppanyaki restaurant is for you. This is not your traditional Japanese restaurant, as shown by the colorful sushi assortments on their menu. Food on each plate is laid out like a painting, and has fun and unique tastes. The rainbow roll, spider roll, gyoza and Alaskan roll all are enjoyable and well priced (one plate should fill you up, but I recommend some gyoza if you aren't sure). I have not tried their steak, but it smells and looks good. Misc: noisy; teppanyaki tables/sushi bar/regular seating available

  • Dan R.

I have been a long time diner at Yanagi. The food for the most part is good and the sushi chefs are amiable. Sushi chef Jeff mad the best Albacore Tataki i have ever had. They are not the cheapest in town, but the food and atmosphere is well worth it.

    (4)
  • Eric C.

we come from san diego and consider ourselves pretty good judges of sushi and we thought this place rocks. we had house roll that comes with soft shell crab and the paradise roll

    (5)
  • Desi O.

Great food. Good service. Chefs are slightly entertaining. Best Crunchy Roll I've had anywhere!

    (4)
  • D N.

Simply the best! The only thing that would make yangis better would be lower prices. Its still worth it trust me!

  • John L.

I have mixed feelings about this place. On one hand the portions are a pretty good size and the food is generally consistant. I like the sushi here and they have a wide variety of rolls to choose from. On the other hand the fish here is not the freshest I've ever had (not that's its by any means bad its just that I can tell that they freeze it). This place is also fairly expensive and very loud. If you are looking for a restraunt with a loud party atmosphere Yanagi is a good fit, its probably a good place to take someone for their birthday or something like that. However, the loudness of the place can be anoying when you are trying to have a conversation with someone who is right next to you and you can't even hear them. Yanagi is a fairly good sushi restraunt but by no means the best I've had or the best in the area. Its worth a try if you like sushi.

My favorite restaurant of all-time! I love Yanagi.

    (5)
  • Cory R.

We go into Yanagi quite frequently and are always impressed with the Teppan and Sushi.... Word to the wise, beware of the "Boat" (for 2 or more people) as it is HUGE, certainly more food than I could handle. The Baked Dynamite and OMG Roll are both Superb!

    (4)
  • Ben D.

The sushi chefs were treating their other employees with complete disrespect. I witnessed one of the servers try to help bring food to a table but the sushi chef didn't like how he walked up to him and then the sushi chef waved him off like a fly then the other chef yells at the hostess trying to say that he's not making anymore rolls when the restaurant is supposed to be closed around 230 and it was only 2. The service was fair but the way they treat their employees, not so fair.

    (1)
  • jUSTN M.

Killer rolls. Killer-er teppan. Call in for pick-up if you want to avoid the hip drunk crowds and rave music sake bombs. Either way, it's all good in the hood.

    (5)
  • Michael W.

There was a wide variety of sushi rolls. Ordered the one with "lobster" at the recommendation of the waiter. It was just OK. I don't believe it was lobster. It seemed more like langostino or crawfish meat. Hard to tell since it was overcooked and rubbery. Maybe it was also previously frozen? Had the chicken teriyaki/tempura combo which was about $18.95. Pretty outrageous price for a combination price but had to see what I would get compared to any other japanese restaurant. Food portions came out as the same as anywhere else. Tempura was good; however the tempura dipping sauce was bland. Chicken teriyaki was white meat chicken. Overcooked just like most japanese restaurants that use white meat instead of dark meat for chicken teriyaki. The teriyaki sauce was overly thick, almost burnt tasting as if it had sat on the stove too long. A coworker got the nabeyaki udon and sunomono salad. The udon was good sized and so was the sunomono salad. He didn't have any complaints. Nice plating of the food if you care about that. I care about what it tastes like more.

    (2)
  • Chris F.

The sushi selection is varied and creative, and I like the selection of non-sushi dishes too. I got the Philly and Crunchy rolls, which were both delicious. The fish tasted fresh, and the Crunchy roll wasn't drenched in the sweet sauce that they pour over it. There was actually still a crunch from the fried panko flakes. The service was good and attentive. I went on half-priced beer and sake bomb night (Tuesday) so the drinks were also flowing. The atmosphere does get a little loud, people do yell out "Sake bomb!", cheesy pop music is played on their speaker system every so often, and the staff comes out in tambourines during a birthday celebration. So if you're looking for a nice, quiet restaurant for a date, this isn't the place. For a group, this is a good place to go for that.

Don't know what all the fuss is about, especially from people who are from Santa Maria (I am originally from Seattle where there is PLENTY of fine places from every diverse back ground). Santa Maria should be happy there is a place other than Mexican food and that is 'somewhat' hip. I have had nothing, but great experiences from Yanagi's other than their terriyaki chicken can be over cooked. Their sushi and atmosphere is excellent. Would recommend to anyone. Sorry native Santa Marians, no machaca and eggs available here!

  • Isaiah N.

Given the limited choices of food in Santa Maria (it's primarily fast food, pizza, chicken, or BBQ), I decided to try this Yanagi location. I've been to the one in Pismo Beach, so I was wondering if they would be consistent in how they cooked the food. It's different...in a good way. I can't say much about the sushi because I tried the teppan at lunchtime. It turns out they have plenty of teppan tables at this location, and we were seated promptly. Service was great throughout, and our chef was friendly as well. I had the steak and shrimp, both of which were quite delicious. Also, the lunch price you see is the price you pay for teppan, which includes fried rice, salad, and soup at no extra charge. In comparison to the one at Pismo Beach, although I ordered something different, they charged me EXTRA for fried rice AND salad as sides. Why in the world would they do that when it says otherwise on the menu?! (disclosure: at least the manager there fixed the problem). So in terms of price accuracy, the Santa Maria location is better (and thankfully so is the food). Thus, if you're looking for a place to eat Japanese-style teppan food in Santa Maria, Yanagi is the place to go. In fact, it's probably the only place to go in the city if you want teppan.

Great sushi-fresh ingredients! Great service! All around a great place to eat dinner with the family. Highly recommend!

    (5)
  • Rachel S.

We have been coming to Yanagi's for quite sometime and the service has been lacking more and more. Well, the last straw was when my husband ordered the albacore roll and he got food poisoning. I have been with my husband for 13 years and he has never had food poisoning! Unless you want to get sick from bad fish, do not eat here.

    (1)
  • Kerry K.

Great stuff, typical teppan with steak and sheimp. Very good sushi rolls. Spicy tuna was fantastic.

    (5)
  • David E.

The warm welcome when we walked in the door said it all - this place rocks! The ambiance was a fun environment with the chefs behind the counter interacting with everyone who passed by. The solid wood entrance woodwork was a nice touch to get you in the mood. We had some solid rolls: 911, firecracker and wasabi encrusted salmon rolls...all spectacular. We didn't even have the chance to ask for anything as their great service meant they were offering to us before we could want anything. Needless to say, offering both fresh wasabi and siracha really topped it off for me. Who doesn't like a place that uses the rooster sauce??

    (4)
  • Nico C.

Look, I have mixed feelings about this spot... On one hand, they have a few rolls in particular that I really like, and my family is addicted too (thus, all the check ins) on the other hand their entrées are ok but pretty average. Their teppen is not bad, but not the best in town either. It is good though, but I'm never blown away, and I'm a fan of teppen but their chefs can be a little over the top making it somewhat uncomfortable.

    (3)
  • Brianna R.

I have never been so disappointed in take out meal in my life. I ordered the 20 dollar chicken teriyaki combo. Its pretty sad when your salad is warm and wilted, while your rice and chicken are cold. It would be smarter to pack everything separately. Also my tempura was placed on top of my teriyaki sauce which made everything a soggy mess. The chicken was dry and tasteless. My husband order sashimi and immediately said ,"This fish is not fresh, it tastes so fishy!". I wish we could have our money back. We won't be back. Save your money and eat at California Sushi Teriyaki on Main St.

  • Stephanie D.

One of my go to places in town but lately the food has been really inconsistent. Ill order a dish one week and its amazing then the next it's completely different from the last.

  • Jamey S.

Great place for sushi and lunch. Top notch service!

    (5)
  • David G.

Yanagi is too expensive for what it offered. The only thing about Yanagi that is ok is the habachi grill. The sushi was not very fresh and i could tell that they froze the fishes. Id rather go to Ai love sushi and buy nice tasting sushi thats decently priced than here.

    (2)
  • Erik B.

Great sushi, great atmosphere, great service. The special rolls are a little pricey, but worth the cost.

    (4)
  • Eli M.

Best Japanese cuisine in town. Also, I highly recommend their Tepan and during lunch you can steal the freshest and best meal in town at just under $15 :).

Absolutely delicious sushi and sushimi, wonderful atmousphere, and great service. The best overall sushi place in the Lompoc/SM area.

Its koo... But I think its over rated...food is good..service Is koo....

  • Kathy H.

My group of 6 decided to eat on the teppan side and had a wonderful experience. The food, from appetizers to sushi to grilled entrees, was absolutely delicious! Edwin kept us entertained and helped to make it a very fun atmosphere. Katrina, our server, was very attentive and personable. I had such a great experience that I decided to place a to-go dinner order the next night to try even more of their menu. Yummy!

    (5)
  • J C.

Overrated! The hostess that "helped" me needs to be fired, first of all! The food was decent... but only that. Try Atari Ya for real sushi and a great experience.

    (1)
  • dj z.

Pretty frickin' awesome to have the choice of decent Japanese food in Santa Maria. The teppan was fun for lunch time, but I recommend sitting at the sushi bar to get to know the sushi chefs. For dinner, my friend and I totally got the hookup - mul kimchee, tak-kwan radish, and albacore tempura. Yum! Thanks for showing me that Santa Maria is not just for fast food lovers. :)

    (4)
  • Jessica K.

Good selection. Pretty consistent service. Certainly can't complain about the food. Kind of loud (Tambourines for birthdays, etc.). They play crappy, crappy pop music ALL THE TIME. It absolutely takes care of my frequent sushi cravings between holiday visits to the Bay Area, though, and that's all I really ask. Oh, and they have bitchin' tempura ice cream. Can't go wrong there.

    (4)
  • Azuresees n.

Overall, I love eating there, BUT--- last visit not so good. Wife ordered grilled salmon. It was way over done and actually had a tough exterior. When she tried to return it, the waiter took her on, explaining that's how salmon is supposed to be cooked. He even broke her fish open to show her the inside. Who does that? His display didn't work as it was also dry inside, so she just sent it back and cancelled. Changed her order to sushi which was fine. I'm sorry, but I didn't leave a tip. He should have never tried to convince a customer that they should eat something they didn't like....

    (2)
  • Rob P.

The waiter was very polite but the chef is horrible. When I asked for an albacore delight the waiter suggested a tuna delite I said ok. It came spicy and the chef got offended when I didn't like it spicy. Funny how a chef is offended at a big spender and bigger tipper. Wont be back...there are better places like atari ya in town who treat people good.

    (2)
  • Susan M.

They have some good food, hit or miss really. Not always fresh or real. Atari-ya is much better, always fresh, authentic, & actually run by Japanese people. I'm not sure the people rating this place as "the best sushi I've ever eaten in Santa Maria!!" have ever heard of or eaten at Atari-ya. You should probably change that. Let me tell you a story: I was hired by Yanagis many years ago. A lady told me to buy black pants for the hostess job. I did, because I didn't own any. On my first day I was watched like a hawk. Instead of being patient and teaching me how to do the job, they yelled at me and told me I was "doing it wrong!" for everything. And would literally push me out of the way and do it for me. Why'd you hire me then? They were rude and unhelpful to me and the other new staff. Then they let me go the same day after 4 hours of work and never paid me. Eat somewhere else where they respect their staff. Eat at Atari-ya.

    (2)
  • Leila R.

Great sushi place in Santa Maria! Highly recommend the California Crunch Roll as well as their Ginjo sake served cold! The waitstaff along w/the sushi chefs were so nice and made our meal extra fun when they made us a crazy balloon animal! You gotta end any meal here with the fried green tea ice cream...so good!

    (4)
  • Milani M.

They really need to work on their customer service. Their food is good yet expensive. Honestly I wouldn't mind the prices too much if they had better customer service.

    (1)
  • Janet L.

This place doesn't deserve a star. This has been the worst dining experience in my life!! They didn't even serve the entree and they dropped our check on the table. The hostess came by once the entree was served and asked us and four other tables to pay up! It was ridiculous! I will never go here again. That hostess needs to be fired! I told her as much!

    (1)
  • Jake T.

By far the worst Customer service I've ever experienced. They don't pay attention to you unless you literally go get them. Treated terribly the entire time. Food wasn't even good. By far the worst sushi experience I've ever had. Will not come back

    (1)
  • Helen D.

Well, seems they've a high turnover for servers. Never the same face whenever I go... Luckily, our server was super gracious this time.... Food wasn't as phenomenal as I remembered but still good and beautiful. Neat interior provides a sense of occasion... Even when there's none. hehe

    (4)
  • Tanya B.

This place doesn't even deserve a star. The most disgusting and horrible Japanese sushi restaurant I've ever dined in. What a disgrace. 1. Flies and spiders are seen on dining tables. Flies were flying and landing on and around food. I informed our waitress about the bugs and her reply was, "Oh". Restaurant doors are left open due to hot weather. Manager/owner is too cheap to turn on the air conditioner. 2. I ordered the Yanagi roll and the texture of the eel felt like it was reheated leftovers. 3. Sashimi is not fresh. 4. Tables are sticky and spotty. 5. Orchid plants around the restaurant are dead. 6. Requested to speak to the manager and was declined. Never will I dine in this dump, again.

    (1)
  • Mayra P.

This review is solely based on service and not the food (since I didn't even get a chance to order). I went in today for dinner and asked to be seated at the grill. The hostess let me know that only one chef was working the dinner shift so there would be a wait. When I asked how long the wait was she left and came back to let us know that they would not be serving anyone else at the grill. Umm what? It was 4pm on a Sunday. How do you stop serving dinner so early on a weekend? There was no explanation given. I felt that was very rude and poor customer service. We left and ate elsewhere.

    (1)
  • Gabriel W.

For some reason I remember this being better. The tuna tataki was good but the sushi seemed like more california rolls than usual. I've had better sushi in Omaha lately. I'm eager to go back in August and see if the San Luis Obispo location has changed or stayed the same. Gotta try out Sumo and Goshi, too!

    (3)
  • Ernest M.

This place looks like it has turned around from previous reviews. Staff was attentive, food was very good and the place was clean.

  • M.N. C.

We pulled up at 11:10 a.m. on a Saturday; the front door was propped wide open. We went inside and the hostess said, "We don't open until 11:30." No "Would you like to come in and have a drink, would you like to wait?", NOTHING. We just sort of stood there and then went to the restaurant next door. FAIL.

    (1)
  • Aneiscia E.

We had a fabulous girls night out. Great vibes, chef, and food. The entertainment piece the chef brought was hilarious! It was my 1st time there and I'll definitely return! 5*****

    (5)
  • Lily-Aneth A.

The service here was seriously horrible. Our waiter took for ever to approach our table and ask us for our choice in drinks. He took an even longer time to come back and take our order. And at the end when I asked for a box to take my left over food home the waiter never came back. I highly recommend you don't go here. Service is just awful. I won't be going back.

  • Heidi N.

Two stars, BUT for service only, I did not care for this at all, fish does not taste fresh at all! My lobster roll was totally overcooked, the little lobster were so chewy it was hard to eat and it had other funky tastes. The waitress was good, food was terrible. We went with my whole family,6 adults and three kids, only thing that tasted ok was something called a heart attack, it was suppose to have been super Spicy and was only Luke warm... but tasted ok. thumbs down on the sushi If I ever do go back,I will try the live grilled food only, NEVER the sushi again, it almost ruined me on sushi....

Grabbed a quick dinner here this past week while I was in town. The ambience was pleasant, the menu had a good variety and our service was quick. All of our rolls were really good and I didn't even need to use my wasabi and soy sauce because they had interesting flavors to them already. I thought the chef was very authentic in his recipes. I would go again if I'm in the area.

As far as the food at this establishment I enjoyed it. But as far as the service it was a nightmare. I was at this location with a party of people on a Saturday night. And let me tell you what they dont have the capability to handle big numbers. The manager\partner owner Is clueless in how to handle a big group. It all started with one poor waitress that was overwhelmed and was getting drink orders wrong she was doing her best but the owner\ partner should of stepped in. The best part was the cooks I give props to those two guys. Things were actually starting to look up and kinda made the service go out of our minds. Than everything went down the rabbit hole and it started after every person had paid. The manager started to hound all of us about a phantom ticket that was not paid. Instead of taking care of it in a professional way he started talking to the entire group like we all were trying to steal from him. I explained to him everyone had paid. And he told me that was impossible, his system is never wrong. Well guess what he was wrong. His server had doubled ordered and no one was served the extra food. I will load a photo of his so unprofessional way of laying receipts on the side walk in front of the establishment while everyone inside could see. My family and friends will not return. To tell you truth I would save your self, the hassle and go through the Burger King Drive-thru and have it your way.

Best sushi place in Santa Maria, for sure. Also better than any place that I've been to in SLO. Still, it's not as good as Sushi Teri in Lompoc, in my opinion. I highly recommend it for anyone that lives in Santa Maria and doesn't want to drive to Lompoc every time they want sushi.

The food is just ok, my daughter ordered me a dragon roll, they gave her something that looked nothing like what she ordered. She wanted to take it back and exchange it for the right thing. They told her to kick rocks. Horrible services. Should be reported and the doors closed. I will never return. Anyone looking to go here, dont. go to the Pismo beach location. Much better food and services.

Please do not eat there! They completely insulted us by overcharging us for a mistake their Waitress made! Did I mention their waitress was horrible?! I sat there pretty much without a napkin after having asked for one and dropped it on the floor, I gave up! Then I sat there hoping someone would come by and ask me to refill my water... Aside from that, she added an extra plate to our order so the chef cooked it! The plate was never ordered by our party! We were charged $80 and chased out the door by the manager and made to lay out receipts in front of the restaurant to prove we all paid for our meals! This was supposed to b for my freinds bday and her husband was being harassed to pay for a meal he did not order! Clearly a mistake done by the restaurant! The manger said they did not make mistakes there! The mistake they did make was forcing us to pay and insulting us by calling the cops. We stayed to talk to the cops b/c we r honest people, and our freinds got "vouchers for the $80 from the owner" as well as an apology the following Monday. But, that is not the same, my freind was embarrassed on her bday. This shows that, wow this place is really out of control! Extremely poor quality customer service! Did I mention this is not the first incident? I won't be their fool again!

This has been my favorite sushi place since they opened and my parents always take me here every time I come back from college. I love their lobster roll they don't have it in Merced so I always order it when I get the chance. The place is nice and neat the sushi chef always greet you so thats a plus but the last time I went their waitresses weren't too friendly. I can't wait to come back though!

Crunch roll Tuna tataki Hungry roll Heart attack Backed dynamite roll Yanagi Roll dragon roll Hawaiian roll Hot night roll Basically you can't go wrong. They are all my favorite. My main sushi guy is James. He use to be at the Santa Maria location but is now in Pismo Beach. He always makes it special and has something new to show me if I ask for it.

Everything on the menu is ponzu-centric. I tried the Yaki Soba, Sashimi Ceviche, and Firecracker Roll. The Soba was burnt and they gave me ramen-cup sized shrimp (the menu showed medium-sized shrimp). The dish was also small and the noodles tasted bland. The Sashimi was oily, sour, and the serving size was supposedly enough to serve two; however, it was barely enough to make a dent in my appetite. I finished it because the dish was expensive and I had to eat out of necessity. The Firecracker roll was descent, but I've certainly tasted better. The menu advertised it had scallops, but they might as well not have added it considering they put only a minuscule morsel. Service never bothered to get us a refill and every attempt to approach us made it seem like they were trying to shove us out of the door. Poor lighting. Depressed looking sushi chefs who gave a meek greeting and goodbye. Waste of money and waste of $60.

As far as the food and the atmosphere goes this is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Santa Maria. I've been here at least 3 times now in the past year. I always enjoy the rolls. I had the crunch roll last night, and the udon soup. They use imitation crab, which doesn't taste great - but the other flavors do. Also, the udon soup really lacked flavor. The last time I got the udon it was really good. The rolls that I've had in the past were good, too. I like the seaweed salad that they serve before the meal. They could improve the sushi bar aesthetics by putting in clear glass so you can see the chef preparing the rolls, and see the fresh ingredients better. Also, they should really take down the kirkland plastic wrap from on top the bar - it looks tacky. The plaza it's in is nice. There is plenty of parking. The sushi chefs are very friendly and the rest of the staff is friendly. There were a lot of flies buzzing around. They could use investing in one of the air sucker outers that you place at the door to keep the bugs out. This is a great place for a birthday or large party. They have the hibachi grill stations like Beni Hana's.

I raved about this placed years ago but, lately, it has gone downhill. I'm not sure if the owners changed or management but the service and quality has dropped, considerably. The quality of ingredients isn't the same and the staff is not very attentive. I tried doing takeout, since dining in is such a pain, but even that wasn't done correctly. I arrived there 20 minutes after I placed the order, they told me 15 minutes. I told them my name and the rung me up. Hostess never told me if I was waiting for something or if it would be long, she just helped other customers. I sat down and waited 15 more minutes and finally got up. The second hostess saw me and asked what the pick up name was. I told her and turns out that my food had been waiting there the whole time. Bad service but great sushi would help make up for that. Well...the sushi wasn't all that great. The chefs don't even make the rolls consistent anymore. I got some big pieces, other tiny pieces and the salmon was so unevenly cooked. Cooked well on some sides and raw on others. You can taste the quality of the product and it just isn't there anymore. The seasoning, the cooking, the attention to detail, the staff, it all has dipped substantially and I will not be coming back. You expect this from cheaper places but the prices have only gone up. 4 rolls for $55? maybe if they were perfect but not for sub-par quality. I recommend trying Sake Sushi, in the mall, lower prices and better sushi.

Hit or miss. I'm kinda sad. This is the 4th strike for me in regards to service. This place is typically good, however the service has been horrible lately.

ok so this time we decided to have their teriyaki lunch special. I had the chicken with gyosa and my husband had the steak teriyaki with gyosa and spicy sesame chicken. Both came with a side of white rice and salad. Let just say chicken or beef they tasted the same. the had these identical cuts with the same grill marks. The meat was frozen artificial I don't know but steak and beef tasted identical not to mention the meat wasn't marinade in teriyaki it was topped with the sauce. It was so badly prepared and was not worth the price. My gyosa was chicken and it tasted like teriyaki thanks to the sauce on the plate because if it wasn't for that it was bland. my husband also didn't like his gyosa it was shrimp but he couldn't tell the difference and his spicy sesame chicken had some nuts which was not part of the meal. On a side note when we first got there we were seated and I asked to be moved because my seat was dirty with food but right after when the next people came in she seated them in that table and they had not cleaned it. Will not go back.
